Man dies after assault outside Newport Beach nightclub

Family members are mourning the death of a 27-year-old Corona del Mar man who was taken off life support Friday after an assault outside a nightclub early Thanksgiving morning.

The assault on Clinton Joseph ‘C.J.’ Hubbard happened around 1:40 a.m. Thursday. Hubbard was leaving Code Restaurant/Lounge at 4221 Striker Way and was confronted by a man in the parking lot, witnesses told police.

That man punched Hubbard in the face.

The punch resulted in a burst artery in the brain, said the victim’s father, also named Clint Hubbard.

Hubbard was rushed to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was declared brain dead, his father said.
